Second International Divine economics conference was hosted by Department of Islamic Economy and Banking and Kashmir Institute of Economics on 18-19 February 2020 at Pearl Continental Muzaffarabad in collaboration with School of Economics Quaid-i-Azam University and Applied Economics Research Centre, University of Karachi and assisted by Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. Main themes of the conference were Divine Economics, Role of Values, Spirituality, Morality in Economy Wellbeing, Ecological Footprints, Governance, CSR, Institutions, Poverty, Inequality, Human Capital, Islamizing Pakistan Economy and Banking, Future Economy. Conference was attended by researchers from Quaid-i-Azam University, Pakistan Institute of Development Economics, International Islamic University, Federal Urdu University and various other universities of Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Conference was followed by workshops on Quantitative and Qualitative data from 20-22 February 2020.
CPEC Centre launched report on CPEC in AJK: A gateway to regional connectivity & beyond authored by Sabur Ali Sayyed of the Centre for Peace, Development and Reforms (CPDR) on 18th February 2020. President Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Sardar Masood Khan was Chief guest of the ceremony. The President commended the highly professional and substantive report researched and written by Sabur Ali Sayyed and complimented Dr. Samina Sabir for her able stewardship of the CPEC Centre at the University of AJK.
Prof. Dr. Syed Nisar hussain Hamdani, Director Kashmir Institute of Economics, presented lecture on Divine economics framework at State Bank of Pakistan (Banking Services Corporation) Muzaffrabad on 15 October 2019. Lecture was attended by Managing director State bank of Pakistan, Chief Manager SBP Muzaffarabad, Staff of SBP, Representatives from different banks, Faculty and Students of Kashmir Institute of Economics.
Memorandum of understanding was signed between Applied Economic Research Centre (AERC), University of Karachi and Kashmir Institute of Economics on 22 November 2019 for collaboration on research projects, faculty development and promotion of Divine Economics.
The 14th Board of Studies of Kashmir Institute of Economics and Department of Islamic Economy and Banking was held on September 05, 2019. Members of board of studies approved courses for BS and MPhil economics. They also approved different Associate Degree Programs. Meeting was attended by Faculty members from Quaid I Azam University, Pakistan Institute of Development Economics and International Islamic University.
Dr. Atiq ur Rehman assumes the charge of Director Kashmir institute of Economics and Chairman Department of Islamic Economy and Banking. He joined KIE in August 2019 and has been serving in International Institute of Islamic Economics and Pakistan Institute of Development Economics before joining Kashmir Institute of Economis
Dr Muhammad Jamil has joined the Kashmir Institute of Economics as Professor on Ghulam Ishaq Khan Memorial Chair at Kashmir Institute of Economics. Dr. Muhammad Jamil has been serving in Quaid-i-Azam University before joining KIE. The Chair is an initiative of the State Bank of Pakistan who provides generous financial support for the faculty.
Dr. Syed Nisar Hussain Hamdani who served the Kashmir Institute of Economics for 36 years, retired from his services on March 17, 2020 after reaching the age of superannuation. A farewell was arranged in the honor of Dr Hamdani which was attended by Honorable Vice Chancellor Dr. Kalim Abbas, Registrar Dr Ayesha Sohail, Deans of all faculties, and faculty of Kashmir Institute of Eonomics. The faculty paid tribute to the services of Dr Hamdani and expressed that his services shall always be remembered
